Jared Wood
Age: 14
Years as a goalie: 2 years
His story:
Jared began his hockey life as a forward and though he was
quite successful, he had always sort of yearned to play goalie. After eight
years of playing forward, he finally convinced his parents to let him make the
switch to goal as a second year PeeWee. Jared worked very hard over the summer
that first year to develop his skills and understanding of the position and was
rewarded by being selected for Casco Bay's Tier II travel team. His first season
saw some ups and downs but was overall quite successful with a trip to the State
Championships and winning the Seacoast League Tournament.
Another summer
of hard work earned him a spot on Casco Bay's Bantam Tier II team, the Maine
Renegades Bantams as well as taking over as the only goalie on his middle school
team. There was another trip to the State Championships with Casco Bay this time
coming away with the win in a 3 OT game. A tournament win with the Renegades and
a fantastic performance in his middle school league semi-finals carrying a
shutout into the halfway point of the third period.
Jared finished his
season and decided he wanted another challenge so he tried out for and made the
Seacoast Spartans AA team. He is looking forward to his camp this summer and is
eager to start the season.
